Alberta Veterinary Dentistry hosts small-group continuing education courses on a regular basis.

We provide a variety of courses applicable to veterinarians, veterinary students, registered veterinary technologists, and other veterinary trainees which include a breadth of topics and skills across the spectrum of veterinary dentistry and anesthesiology.

We ensure each participant is welcomed into a safe learning environment and receives the attention they require to grow their confidence.

Dental Extractions - Registration CLOSED
4 hours of ABVMA CPD Credits

Training Structure: In a small group setting, we will discuss the steps to perform surgical tooth extractions and provide tips and tricks that will improve your efficiency and reduce patient morbidities during dental surgeries. The wet-lab will consist of supervised and personalized cadaveric practice of dental extractions on cats and dogs. Snacks provided.

The Dental Dozen: Bite-Sized Learning at Rapid Speed
2 hours of ABVMA CPD Credits

RECOVER Rescuer Certification (BLS & ALS) Workshop
8.5 + 6.5 hours of ABVMA CPD Credits

Led by Dr. Jessica Pang, BSc(Hons), DVM, MVetSc and Nicole Paleck, RVT

When: Saturday, March 7th, 2026 (8:30am- 4:30pm)

Where: Alberta Veterinary Dentistry (358 58 Ave SW #107, Calgary, AB T2H 2M5)

Who: DVMs, RVTs, and students (DVM or RVT)

Cost: $550+tax

Training Structure: 8.5 h (RACE approved CE) online component for Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support modules (to be completed 1 week in advance to participate in the workshop portion).  The in-clinic workshop (6.5 h ABVMA approved CE) provides multiple CPR scenarios where the theory learned in the online portion is coupled with the participants veterinary knowledge to role play the situations in real time with the instructor and patient simulators.  An assessment is performed at the end of the BLS and ALS portions of the workshop to obtain RECOVER Rescuer certification. Dental Radiography
4 hours of ABVMA CPD Credits
Led by Rebecca Tierney, RVT and Alexa Jones, RVT
 
When: Saturday, April 18th, 2026 (2 sessions – morning and afternoon)
Where: Alberta Veterinary Dentistry (358 58 Ave SW #107, Calgary, AB T2H 2M5)
Who: DVMs, RVTs, and students (DVM or RVT)
Cost: $550+tax
Training Structure: 4 hours total (1hr lecture + 3hr wet-lab).  This session will cover the basics of radiography and the techniques for obtaining a diagnostic image.  In small groups we will troubleshoot and critically evaluate the radiographs to help participants improve their skill and time with performing intraoral radiographs on both dogs and cats.  We will introduce the advanced diagnostic imaging from a cone beam CT and provide a demonstration of setting up the machine to maximize anatomy captured in the images.  Snacks provided.

Training Structure: Dental radiographs are essential tools for diagnosing oral disease, but they can be challenging to interpret with confidence. This course will guide veterinary professionals through a systematic approach to reading feline and canine dental radiographs. Participants will learn how to identify normal anatomy, recognize common pathology, and avoid common pitfalls in interpretation. Practical case examples will reinforce key concepts, equipping attendees with the skills to apply radiographic findings to everyday clinical decision-making. Snacks provided.

Dental Nerve Blocks
2 hours of ABVMA CPD Credits

Professional Dental Cleaning

Training Structure: The lecture discusses the steps of the professional dental cleaning for canine and feline patients. Topics will include understanding the role of the dental cart, documenting the procedure and hand instruments as key components to the comprehensive dental cleaning. We will work in a small group setting to maximize concepts covered in the lecture. Snacks provided.

  • Anesthesia for Chronic Kidney Disease – with a practical guide to safely prescribing acetaminophen for canine patients

  • Cardiac Anesthesia – focusing on mitral valve disease (MVD) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)
